The Black Hmong are a subgroup of the Hmong hill tribe and are located in the northwest of Vietnam. They are based mainly around the Sa Pa district which is located in the Lao Cai province. They make up one of the 54 ethnic groups of Vietnam and of the six Hmong groups in Vietnam.

The Black Hmong are known for their traditional deep indigo colours on hemp. They are also known for their symbolic emboirdery and batik techniques which are usually found on their sleeves and collars of jackets and belts.
Women wear their clothing by wearing jackets with a belt, black velvet ribbon around legs, hats and elaborate silver jewellery.
